Below are few practices that helped me achieve inner calm and bliss

1. Starting the day with a positive affirmation:

Before I get out of the bed in the morning, I say a positive affirmation to myself. E.g. I choose today to be a complaint free day .When you use the word “I choose”, you take responsibility for your actions and when u do so , anything might happen in the day, you will ensure that your intent for the day is fulfilled . In this case, whatever might happen, I will not complain, at least that one day, because I made a commitment to myself.
It has worked wonders for me. Somehow you get the power and control of your life just by saying an affirmation and since you believe in the affirmation, you chose for yourself, it effortlessly happens.

2. Meditating

This is the best way to connect with yourself and the universe. I truly believe that you not only get all your answers, but also unfolds the truth behind your existence in a deep meditative state. I have set aside a time to meditate each day. I generally mediate for 5–10 minutes and it helps me get completely relaxed. All my stress gets drained off. It’s a place of immense peace that can only be experienced. I would encourage you all to meditate just for few minutes each day at a set time. Setting up a time helps you get in a routine and it stops looking like a task. So, meditation time just becomes something like taking bath or brushing your teeth, in other words a daily ritual with great benefits.

3. Practicing Gratitude:

This habit helped me get an instant shift in my life. We keep saying, “Thank you” almost entire day without internalizing or thinking much about it. Someone opens the door for us, we would say “Thank you” and move on without giving it much thought but the fact is, no matter how small the task is, it made a difference in your life. You had to put no effort and the door automatically got opened. The moment you start being thankful of small mercies in your life. You will realize that most of that day you were thankful of something or the other and that feeling gives a big energy boost. You feel loved, supported and grateful and this belief then converts into the conviction that “you have a great life” and that in turn will ensure that you attract things that make your life great. This gives you strength and no matter what happens, your conviction brings you back to where you truly belong- “A great life”. I am grateful for medium community that gave me a platform to share my beliefs and thoughts. What are you grateful for in this very moment?

4. Self-care:

I ensure that every day I take out 30 min for myself and in that time, I do whatever I enjoy like reading, listening to music, writing anything that I feel in the moment. I think it helps me get energized and let me be ‘me’. With time we keep changing, what we were 5 years back we are not now. We are constantly evolving, however in the process sometimes we lose ourselves. E.g. we keep saying things like ‘I love playing Football,it’s just I don’t have time, life is so busy’ That’s true, life is busy and this is also true, that the fact you brought about “Football”means you are missing that part of your life .why miss it? Do it in your ‘me ‘time? This way you will never lose yourself in the busy life. Imagine how beautiful your life would be, if you can still do all the things you miss doing. It’s important to love yourself to be an ocean of love for others.

5. Living in the Present moment:

This is the foundation of a blissful life. I once did mindful eating exercise, where I ate one almond and it took me 10 min to finish it. I first observed the texture, smelled it and then I ate it little by little and it felt as if I had eaten 20 almonds. That’s the power of mindfulness.
It was a life changing event for me and since then, I practice living in the present moment. You will notice, most of the times the problem is either in the past or in the future. In the present moment, there is generally no problem, its only in our thoughts, our mind. The more you practice “living in the present”, the more you mind comes to rest.
Toddlers follow “living in the present moment” a lot and as we grow up, we get caught up in life tensions and unlearn this beautiful skill.
10 min mindful walk each day is enough to clear your mind and body of any stress you are holding up. Try it and see for yourself. While walking, notice every small thing without judging or labeling just observing. Hear air or any other sound in the environment, see how it smells, take a deep breath. Feel the wind or air on your body as you walk. Just do it for 5–10 min to start with. See how you feel. Share your experiences.
These are the few practices I follow that made a difference in my life. Hope you benefit as well. Please share your experiences or any good practices that has helped you 🙂
